Biography
Judge Mohamad Charaf is from Machghara. He pursued legal studies in Lebanon and France, earned a state doctorate in law, and then entered the Lebanese judiciary.
He served as the single criminal judge in Zahle and heard criminal and environmental cases involving pollution of the Litani River and breaches of health and environmental legislation.
In 2019 he issued a notable ruling that advanced the legal discussion of “water crime” and “environmental justice.” He continued issuing decisions in Litani pollution cases, including three judgments delivered on 4 July 2024 against industrial establishments.
