Fouad Iskandar Rizk
Lawyer, former Beirut Bar president, and former justice ministerA jurist and political figure born in Machghara who became president of the Beirut Bar Association, helped found the Progressive Socialist Party, and served as Lebanon’s minister of justice in 1966.
Biography
Fouad Iskandar Rizk was born in Machghara in 1900 and moved with his family to Aleppo during childhood. He studied law in his free time, earned his degree in 1918, began practising law in 1926, and also taught at a law institute.
He helped publish the legal journal Al-Muhami and supervised Lebanon’s Official Gazette during the presidency of Bechara El Khoury. In 1958 he was elected president of the Beirut Bar Association after a long legal career.
Rizk helped found the Progressive Socialist Party in 1949 and held senior responsibilities within it. He was appointed minister of justice in December 1966, taught law at the Lebanese University, and received Lebanon’s Gilded Medal of Merit.
