I would like to share two stories with you .After 20 years living in Australia,I decided to go with my family to Lebanon for a trip. We boarded an Australian airline to Singapore. All the lebanese were very happy and respectful of each other.From Singapore to Lebanon we boarded MEA plane. As soon as we got on the plane most of the passangers started arguing and making their own rules. One of the passengers wanted to put his hand luggage above my seat and put mine somewhere else. His excuse was that he paid for six tickets and he deserve more room than me and my 3 children. I refused to do so,although the hostess asked me to agree and put my bag somewhere else. At the end, the other man agreed to put his luggage somewhere in the first class cabin and he stayed in the economy class. My point is we could not agree on a lebanese plane. How can we agree in Lebanon . We have no problem being united outside Lebanon But not inside it or even on its national airline. The other story was 35 years ago my late brother Salem went to vote in a election , he was asked who he is voting forALBERT KARAM or late RAFIK DEBS ? but the funny thing is both of them were not even running for the election but each one of them supported a candidate for the election. Good luck in the new election and I pray to God to give you the wisdom to vote for the best candidate that will represent your town.

بدأت بعض القوى والتيارات السياسية، في الساعات الماضية، بحسم خياراتها لخوض المعركة الانتخابية في دائرة راشيا البقاع الغربي، التي تضم ستة نواب. اثنان منهم للطائفة السنية، ونائب واحد لكل من الدروز، الشيعة، الموارنة والأرثوذكس، فيما تتريث قوى وتيارات أخرى، وفي طليعتها الناخب الأكبر، تيار المستقبل، بانتظار غربلة الأسماء المطروحة، حتى يعطى الضوء الأخضر، وجواز المرور من قبل سعد الحريري، في حين تشهد هذه الدائرة هجمة من المرشحين الجدد، لا سيما في الطائفتين السنية والأرثوذكسية، قياسا بالطوائف الأخرى، إلى جانب استمرار الترشيح المعنوي لنواب <<لائحة القرار>>، وهم عبد الرحيم مراد، إيلي الفرزلي، فيصل الداود، محمود أبو حمدان، روبير غانم وسامي الخطيب.
في هذه الاثناء، بدأت تتبلور ملامح لائحة ائتلافية مدعومة من تيار المستقبل وحركة امل وحزب الله والحزب التقدمي الاشتراكي، وذلك في ضوء مبادرة رئيس الحزب التقدمي الاشتراكي النائب وليد جنبلاط، يوم السبت الماضي، باعلانه عن ترشيح عضو مجلس القيادة وائل أبو فاعور، عن المقعد الدرزي، في هذه الدائرة في مواجهة النائب فيصل الداود. ثمة حديث تردد امس عن تبلور اتفاق اولي بين حركة أمل وحزب الله، قضى بترشيح المدير العام السابق لمصلحة الليطاني ناصر نصر الله، عن المقعد الشيعي، من ضمن سلة ترشيحات وفاقية كاملة، بين الطرفين في عدد من الدوائر الإنتخابية، في مواجهة النائب الحالي محمود أبو حمدان، وذلك نتيجة الخلافات القائمة بينه وبين رئيس المجلس النيابي نبيه بري.
وفي المقابل، قرر المجمع الثقافي في البقاع الغربي ترشيح رئيسه المفكر الإسلامي الدكتور فرح محمد موسى للمقعد الشيعي ذاته، بحيث سيعلن عن ذلك في مؤتمر صحافي يعقده الأسبوع القادم، الى جانب مرشحين آخرين محتملين ما زالوا يدرسون خياراتهم
وفي الوقت الذي أعلن فيه الأمين العام السابق للحزب الشيوعي اللبناني المحامي فاروق دحروج عن ترشحه عن أحد المقعدين السنيين في هذه الدائرة، وذلك انسجاما مع الوجهة التي اتخذها الحزب الشيوعي بترشيح دحروج عن هذا المقعد في جميع الدورات الانتخابية السابقة، فإن الحزب السوري القومي الإجتماعي، كان قد أعلن سابقا عن ترشيح منفذه العام في البقاع الغربي عبد الله وهاب لأحد هذين المقعدين، فضلا عن مرشحين آخرين بينهم جميل شرانق، عمر شبلي، محمد الصميلي، جهاد الدسوقي، زياد ناظم القادري، أحمد فتوح، جمال الجراح، أحمد رباح، فيصل فرحات، نبيل فارس، علي الحاج، يحيى حمود، الدكتور عدنان ياسين، محمد دحروج عن الجماعة الإسلامية، عبد القادر القادري
أما بالنسبة للمقعد الأرثوذكسي، فهناك هجمة <<فرزلية>> على الترشح، فإلى جانب النائب الحالي إيلي الفرزلي، فإن ترشح ابنة عمه السيدة نورما اديب الفرزلي صار من باب تحصيل الحاصل، فضلا عن المرشح القديم المستجد الياس الفرزلي وسامي عبود، اللواء المتقاعد أنطوان سعد، غسان الحداد وأسعد المعلولي.
اما بالنسبة للمقعد الماروني، فإلى جانب النائب الحالي روبير غانم، والمرشح الدائم هنري شديد، هناك مرشحون آخرون بدأوا بالتحرك في قرى المنطقة.
ولكن حتى الآن لم تنضج لعبة التحالفات، لتبدأ بعدها لعبة تشكيل اللوائح، والكل بانتظار قرار آل الحريري، لتسمية مرشحيهم، وإن كان من الثابت حتى الآن، أن لائحة المعارضة ستضم الى جانب مرشحي تيار المستقبل السنيين، مرشح الحزب التقدمي الاشتراكي وائل ابو فاعور عن المقعد الدرزي والنائب روبير غانم عن المقعد الماروني، فيما ترتفع أسهم اللواء المتقاعد أنطوان سعد عن المقعد الأرثوذكسي، وترجح مصادر مطلعة بعض الأسماء لدخولها وفي طليعتهم ناصر نصر الله عن المقعد الشيعي، وزياد ناظم القادري عن المقعد السني

If all the Christians live by the Bible and the Muslims live by the Koran ,we would not be fighting over who is better than the other. During the war the Christians killed with the cross or a picture of a saint on their guns and the Muslims killed with the word Allah on their guns.Everybody is guilty, we should be ashamed at insulting each other and degrading ourselves. The problem in Lebanon is not about religion,it is about power. If the leaders and our politicians are not united how do we expect the people of Mashgara or any town in Lebanon to be united . The only one thing that both side would agree on is to disagree.Please give us a break and write something pleasant and respectful.

I hear a lot of Muslims here talking about unity. The fact of the matter is that Christianity and Islam are contradicting religions. God and Allah are not the same, although Christians and Muslims both use Allah to refer to their gods. Two differences between Christianity and Islam serve as the main contentions between the peoples of the two religions: 1) Islam condones murder and slaughter, Christianity does not; 2) Christianity is more forgiving than Islam.
Here are some basic facts about our small town and our country:
- The town was occupied by Christians before Muslims started an aggressive takeover of it;
- Muslims took up arms against Christians, indiscriminately killing Christians without retribution;
- Muslims are outwardly hostile to non-Muslim countries, and support radical, renegade, armed, and destabilizing groups.
The above is an obvious trend in all Muslim countries. Either Islam is a destructive religion or it is a coincidence all Muslim countries are and have always been corrupted, which is unlikely.
Muslims out there calling for Christians to be united with them should be looking at themselves and their own cultures. You talk about unity with the Christians, and in the same sentence you imply they are impure. I am tempted to discuss religious issues, but I will not go there.
The reality is Christians have been always for unity, and their actions have been accordingly. However, Muslims think of unity as having the Christians fight side-by-side for Muslim causes. Since the inception of Lebanon, Lebanese Christians have advocated for Muslims: in the inception of the Lebanese constitution, Arab-Israeli wars, education, workforce, etc. (I’m sure some of you know better than I do in what areas Christians supported Muslims.)
Therefore, if you are a Muslim and you don’t see unity between you and Christians, all I have to say to you is it is you. You have to get out of this mentality: Muslims are my brothers, the hell with the rest of the world. Then you’ll see the unity. Jesus said in front of a crowd “Who are my brothers? You are my brothers, sisters, and mothers.”
Our country is literally where East meets West. Let’s try to show the world that we will not be the center of Armageddon (the final war on Earth.) The first step towards doing that is separating state and religion from the infrastructure of our country: government development, law, police, firefighters, education, etc. The second step is to remove these Hezbollah thugs and their like from every strand of our society. The third is to normalize relations with surrounding countries, especially Israel and Syria. The fourth step is to create a team especially trained to undo religious tensions that might be developing inside communities. The fifth step is to make a new constitution, made by the Lebanese for the Lebanese. The fifth and final step is to build our military power to prevent re-enactments of the havoc Syria brought to our country, and to make our populace feel secure and dignified.

لفتت مصادر متابعة إلى أن التظاهرة التي نظمها تيار القوات اللبنانية المنحلة في ساحة رياض الصلح في وسط العاصمة اللبنانية بيروت صباح اليوم للمطالبة بإطلاق سراح قائدها سمير جعجع طغى عليها اللون الواحد على الرغم من الدعوات المتعددة التي أطلقتها بعض القوى السياسية المعارضة لإظهار الطابع الوطني لهذه المناسبة. وقالت المصادر" أن اختيار ساحة رياض الصلح مكاناً للتجمع وليس ساحة الشهداء التي شهدت خلال الشهرين الماضين تجمعات عدة لهذه القوى، سببه رغبة المنظمين بأن يكون التجمع بعيداً عن ضريح الرئيس الشهيد رفيق الحريري! وقدرت المصادر عدد المتظاهرين بعدة آلاف تجمعوا قرب المدخل الشرقي لمجلس النواب ، لافتة إلى أن طابع الانتخابي طغى على كلمات الخطباء

I guess we can go back in forth with this issue for a long time, we all suffered greatly and we all have paid a valuable price, I have been trying for so long to bridge the gap amongst us because I realized that war shatters homes, destroys property, most of all stops the human mind to be human. We must reconcile we must reach out to each other we must settle our own differences not allow other to settle them for us because others do not wish for us to work out our differences, we must stop the bickering we must not dual on the past but learn from it It takes a big heart and a big man to step forward and face the issues, I guess we the Machgharanians are so narrow minded we only think what is best for me,me, and me I am disappointed in knowing most of you still hold grudges, I always said do not forget the past but forgive, Allah forgives those who eat from what he created for them and drink from the water he sprung for them and they worship other then him and then they repent and worship him properly then he forgives them. Ya ahl Machghara abroad, it is your responsibility since you have left and have seen the light as they say to help your families back home, it is our duty to work together and get to know each other build what we have destroyed, it must be the time to heal the old wounds. Dears Wlaid Essaha, Thank you for your remarks. But I don't have any hate in my heart. My heart is open and clean, thanks God for that. Forgiveness is essential and a must when you believe in God. My previous writings were not intended to offend you or to hurt your feelings. If you really consider yourself a person with a big heart and you want to live in peace and harmony then my writings are not addressed to you or people like you. I’m strictly talking about people who committed crimes and contributed in hurting people regardless their political background and their religion. Bad people and criminals don’t have a particular entity, nationality or religion. Crimes were committed by all sides and I condemn all these actions without any conservation. I condemn mistakes done by cousins, brothers and anyone and I don’t protect or defend accountable and guilty people and I never justified any crime. You have accused me for taking away your beautiful memories and OUR MACHGHARA, God Forbid; because I know how much hard it is to take away something that you really love. My Dears, you can’t build a future if you don’t learn from your past. I guess you don’t know how hard it is for someone to loose a father, a brother or both. I guess you don’t know how hard it is to see your sisters and mother insulted and threatened. I guess you don’t know how hard it is to leave OUR MACHGHARA and have your home occupied and stolen afterwards. It’s so easy for you to talk. My dear with all my love, my ultimate dream is to go back to machgara and I want to invest in MACHGARA but how do I know all the terrible crimes won’t happen again? Do you think I like to open the injuries of the past? What unity are you talking about? Do u think the people of machgara are united? I can confirm No, if you don’t agree you will be definitely not honest. We still don’t agree on a common entity for our nation, we still don’t have one common enemy and common allies. We still have organization committed to serve foreign countries. These are not signs of unity. There is a lot of people out there want to be united, I am one of them and perhaps you too. But sadly the Lebanese people in general are not united yet. If we are truly united, we cannot be afraid of listening to real stories from our past. You have accused me for being extremist, yes I do have an extreme stand for my country and this something I’m proud of. But if you are talking about religious extremism, my response you don’t know me. I’m not saying I am Mr. RIGHT but I know who Mr. WRONG is. Truth hurt sometimes; I know. Every time I read the comments I feel I want to rebottle but something holds me back, but this time after I read the comments by Ibn Assaha, I decided to say my point. I couldn’t agree with your comment more, I feel we have extended our hands more then one time or so many times to the people like the ones from Canada and elsewhere. Well it is time to say it like it is, either you learn to live with us in peace and harmony or you can continue to bark like a ………………. We have had enough of your bigotry and ignorant and self centered way of thinking we are in 2005, you must not be so arrogant and not accept others, but we do have big hearts in Machghara and we will extend some time for you and your likes to set down and rethink the way you approach things. Our families thought us values and to forgive but not to forget so we realized we are only human beings, our Islam teach us to live with others in peace and harmony and we did prove it so many times in Machghara, so isn’t time you think things over. For a while there reading the previous paragraphs i had a smile on my face because it took me back to dr salim's memories, that great legend. But then poped raed and mr attowa and screwed up everything. I have a message for them and their likes. neither u nor the whole world would be able to take away our beautifull mamories, our beautifull machghara or our unity as machgharanians. So i extend my arms to u in peace with the labanese flag hoping that might help u in cleansing your heart as i ask u to pay a visit to machghara maybe that will help u get over some of your hatred . There were few people interested in defending the innocent Iraqi People in "Abou Graib" prison. They talked a lot about the crimes done by the American soldiers. Does the innocent Lebanese in the Syrian jails concerns you at all? It doesn't seem like they care. I wonder why some people want to see with one eye, and ignore the rest. Raeid.

Once Dr Salem recieved a request for urgent visit to Kfarhouna. A woman was really ill. He got his next door neighbour to drive him and after spending couple of hours attending to the patient, her family asked him how much they owed him. He asked for 10 Liras (3achar lirat). On the way back, the driver was quite upset and asked Dr. Salem: "3achar lirat ya Hakim, ma bikafou oujrit el benzine 3a Kfarhouna!" (10 liras would not cover the cost of Gas). And Dr. Salem replied: "Akhadet 3achar lirat la elak oujrit el benzine!" (10 Liras are yours for the cost of Gas!". Thank you Dr. Salem for being who you are. He is really a great man and should be honourd more. I wish that there were a bit more people like him... He was not only good as a doctor but as human being too........ He is really a great man.... For this week, the success story is dedicated to a great humanitarian in Machghara. A humble man that dedicated his life to serve his fellow Machgharanians. Every one of us was somehow touched or at least knows somebody who was touched by the generosity of this great human being. There will be no guesses for this week, and there will be no CV to describe his achievements. His CV of is engraved in each one of us: Dr. Salem Abou-Khalil. I will share with you a vivid childhood memory of him: I visited his cabinet alone as kid for a trivial health complaint. At the end of the visit and after getting the bottle of syrup from the back room (do you remember the smell?), I asked him as I was instructed to do so by my parents: "Adaich bitrid ya hakim?"... He replied without looking at me with his monotonic voice: "Ma3 el salami!". Then I sort of insisted that my parents instructed me to pay something. And again the only answer I would get from him: "Ma3 el salami, Ma3 el salami, Ma3 el salami!!!!”. Let us all have a grateful thought for this extraordinary man this week. Don't hesitate to share similar stories with us, so at least we can return, in recognition, a small fraction of what he gave to all of us. Monzer

If only in discussing the Lebanese matter , it shows that the past is still haunting many Machgharanians. Please, in the comming days try to put Machghara first. We all belong to this great town. Let us work together and have a fresh start. Amy.
